REFLECTION:
It has been a joy joining with you over these last two weeks, sensing your
enthusiasm in worship and discipleship. You strike me as being interested in,
and keen to better understand, the Scriptures. Hopefully this flows out into
your life beyond St James. Christianity, at its best, is highly infectious – so
don’t hide your light ‘under a Bushel’ (Mark 4:21 and parallels). Your
enthusiasm in worship comes through especially in your singing. It might be
worth considering how you might express more enthusiasm and joy in said
services. Today we look at our second passage in the Epistle of James. Here our
attitudes to wealthy people and poor people come into focus. James has things
to say that were highly counter-cultural then and remain so now. He also
introduces a major focus on the relationship between belief and behavior.
On Friday I attended the funeral of Jill Wilson, wife of the long-time Southern
Region Bishop, John Wilson. Many of your will remember her fondly from when she visited with John in the eighties, nineties and early ‘naughties’. In retirement she and John (she more so than he, because his health was failing) made a superb contribution to building up the parish of Cranbourne. This included leading the youth group
there for a season! In her early life she was a teacher and then a leader in
developing a better Christian understanding of contemporary social
issues. May we, in our time, be inspired by the examples of such Saints.

IMPORTANT ADVANCES IN THE BUILDING PROJECT
This week our building committee took our project before the Diocesan
Property Committee and we were cleared to advance to the construction
phase. A builder has been chosen but we are still fine tuning the contracts and
some adjustments to the final price. This is a great step forward which should allow us to begin construction this year. We will be giving more detail over the coming weeks once details are finalised.
VICAR’S LEAVE
Graeme and Jane will be taking two weeks annual leave from this Tuesday
August 27th until the 9th of September. The Rev. Dr. David Powys will be
acting as the locum but he will just be working on Wednesdays and Sundays
for the services and responding to urgent needs such as funerals. For all other
enquiries, speak to the wardens or to George or Oyem. In case of emergency,
David’s number is 0402273339.
MISSION MOMENTS
Please remember to pray regularly for all Missions and missionaries
throughout our country and overseas. There are publications in the porch from
a number of Mission organisations, so please feel free to take and learn more
of the wonderful work being undertaken everywhere.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT GROWTH GROUP
Would you like to grow in your faith? Why not consider coming along on
Wednesday nights. Together we read the bible and learn from each
