REFLECTION:
In our Gospel reading today, there’s a grammatical detail pointing to the fact
that the God of the Bible is one in three persons. Can you see it? “Go therefore
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...” In this verse, the word “name” is
singular. In other words, there’re not three names but just one
name embracing the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That's just one clue
pointing to the fact that the God of the Bible isn’t just one but one in three
persons or Trinity (tri-une). “But wait a minute, the word Trinity isn’t even
in the Bible!”, you might say. You’re right – the word Trinity isn’t in the
Bible but the Bible contains the main ideas of the trinitarian concept and that’s
what we'll see this morning on Trinity Sunday:
-The biblical testimony of the Trinity
-The doctrine of the Trinity
-The differences between the persons of the Trinity
-The practical implications of the Trinity
QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT
Are we trinitarian Christians at St James? Do we love one another as the Father loves the Son and as the Son loves the Father? Do we just love those who love us or do we also love those who don't love us, even our enemies?
