Sunday 24th September 2023 – Seventeenth Sunday After Pentecost

REFLECTION:

Philippians 1:1-30 “Proclaim the Gospel”

Our Parish Mission Statement is “to know Christ, to Serve Christ, to Proclaim

Christ”. This is our calling and our purpose as a church. Yet it is easy for us to

get distracted from this and to let a series of other worthwhile activities lead us

to deviate from our core purpose.

Paul’s letter to the Philippians is a wonderful encouragement for us to stand

firm in the gospel we have received, to grow in our knowledge of Christ, to

rejoice in our glorious Lord, and to proclaim this gospel to others. Here is a

summary of today’s message.

1. Paul’s Confidence in the gospel (1-11)

a. I thank my God every time I remember you (1-5)

b. God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished

(6-8)

c. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more (9-11)

2. Paul’s passion to proclaim the gospel (12-26)

a. What has happened to me has actually helped to spread the gospel (12)

b. That Christ is proclaimed in every way and in that I rejoice (18)

3. Paul’s call to stand firm in the Gospel... (27-

a. Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ (27)

b. Stand firm in the faith of the gospel and do not be intimidated (28-30)

To Think About:

If I were to weigh up and summarise my words and my actions, would the

Gospel of Christ come through clearly?
