REFLECTION: 2 Samuel 6:1-5, 12-19 “David brings the Ark to Jerusalem”
Life isn’t always straight forward. Sometimes we need to learn to walk a tight rope
between two opposites that are in tension. It can be like this also with our worship.
It’s as bit of a balancing act. On the one hand we stand before a holy and fearsome
God, and we should stand in reverent awe before him, remembering that he holds our
very lives in his hands and that sin in our lives can mean death. But on the other hand,
he is a loving God who commands us to rejoice in his presence and to praise him.
Through Jesus, he invites us to have complete confidence before him and to even call
him our heavenly father. What should be our attitude before him? How do we balance
a healthy fear of the Lord with a full-bodied joyfulness in our worship of him? King
David guides us an example as we see how he brings the Ark of the Covenant to
Jerusalem. These are the main points I want to highlight.
1. Respect for God’s Holiness.
2. Joy in God’s presence.
3. Worship only for God.
To Think About:
What could bring more joy to our worship here at St James?
