Weddings

You are welcome to enquire about being married at St James’ Anglican Church, Dandenong. We are an Anglican Church and to be married at St James’ you will you will need to contact the Vicar, Fr Jeff Parker. Marriages cannot be conducted at St James’ by non-Anglican clergy or by secular wedding celebrants.

St James’ is a beautiful traditional church and is a stunning church in which to be married. Usually we have available a skilled organist to make sure your music is as good as it can be.

Those who come to St James’ for a wedding will need to undertake some kind of preparation. Preparing for marriage is a lot of fun and a great investment of a small amount of time before entering into a lifetime relationship.

If possible it's preferable for couples wanting to be married at the church to come along to worship services, probably Sunday 10 am at least for a few weeks before being married. That honours the sacrament of marriage and honours the God whom we are asking to bless you.

If you want us to conduct your wedding you need to provide to us:

  • Birth certificates for both parties, plus passports or other photo identification
  • A baptism certificate for at least one of the couple
  • Final divorce papers or Death Certificate (of former spouse/s) if you are intending to remarry

Photographers need to work closely with the celebrant of the marriage. They need to be reminded that they are guests in the church and are to obey instructions given by the clergy. Unfortunately this has occasionally been an issue. Photographers MUST speak with the priest before the service to be advised of where they can and cannot stand to operate their equipment, otherwise problems may well arise during the ceremony which would be most unfortunate.

COSTS: There will be an all-inclusive fee of $950 for a wedding at St James’ in 2015-2016.

Included are the costs of the preparation programme, all paperwork and certificates, the wedding candle if one is needed, and organist if required. There are some optional extras that would attract additional costs, for instance an official wedding certificate from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, or extra flowers to what we normally have in church.

It's great preparing for marriage, even if you have been together for a long time. We aim to be realistic, mature and respectful to all who come for marriage and by your wedding day we are usually good friends. If you want to find out more about being married in our parish, please contact the Vicar (03 9793 3898). Once your mind is made up you need to pay a non-refundable deposit of $100, (cheque payable to The Anglican Parish of St James’ Dandenong) to confirm your booking.
