Rev. Jeremy Watson

Jeremy feels privileged to begin his ordained ministry life at St James in Dandenong. He was ordained deacon in February 2017, after theological studies at Ridley College, a student placement in Diamond Creek, and various ministries in the Salvation Army. He grew up mostly in Adelaide, studying Telecommunications Engineering at Adelaide University and working in IT for two years before beginning theological studies in 2011.

He was raised in a Christian family, and yet it was at University that the crucified and risen Lord Jesus took control of his heart and life-direction. Jeremy continues to support student ministry, and yet during his formation at Ridley College he began to love the New Testament’s vision of the church. This led him to pursue pastoral ministry in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, of which he is thrilled to be a newcomer in this great team.

As an evangelical Christian, Jeremy loves helping people to see how the death and resurrection of Jesus transforms our whole lives as we grow in him through the Scriptures. He is also aware of how much he still has to learn as he embarks on the great journey that is the Christian life (let alone, vocational ministry). Having moved into the suburb in January 2017, he is also enjoying getting to know the culinary and cultural delights of cosmopolitan Dandenong. Please come and introduce yourself to Jeremy next time you are at St James.

Sr Gloria Bio

Sr Gloria Dowling, Seniors Minister at St James’ Dandenong

I am Gloria Dowling, a Novice Sister of the Community of the Holy Name in Cheltenham.

Born in Canberra, I have lived there for most of my life although I have also lived in Papua New Guinea and Tasmania.  I am blessed to be the mother of 2, step mother to 3 and grandmother to 7.  My second husband died 8 years ago.

I was fortunate to be raised in the Anglican Church and have served that church in many different roles for over 35 years.  The Community of the Holy Name has been a part of my spiritual journey for more than 30 years and during that time I have travelled regularly from wherever I lived to visit the Community.  I moved to live in Melbourne to test the vocation to the Religious Life in January 2015.

Worshipping and serving Our Lord with of the Parish of St James’ Dandenong is a great joy for me and also particularly ministering to seniors through visitation and pastoral care.

Rev. Michael Danaher Bio

I am the Reverend Michael Danaher and I am a Deacon at St James’ Anglican Church Dandenong.

My wife Kim and I have only been married since June 2013, but we already have four adult children and one grandchild between us!  My step-daughter Angelina, who is Kim’s daughter from her first marriage, recently turned 30, and she has a daughter of her own (Sienna) who turned 1 in December 2015. My own daughter (Chloe) celebrated her 27th birthday in December 2015, and my twin sons (Connor and Lachlan) are 23. They are the children from my first marriage.

Kim and I also have a ragdoll cat, Sassy, who is 8 years old, a 3 year old poodle named Henry, and nine goldfish. We live in South Melbourne, and I commute each day to St James. Kim and I met, and were married, at Christ Church South Yarra, where Kim exercises a part-time authorised lay ministry, working with children and families. Kim also works part-time at Christ Church Grammar School where she teaches Religious Education.

I enjoy listening to music, with the Eagles, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, The War on Drugs, John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen being among my favourite artists. I love to play the guitar, albeit not that well, and I own a steel string acoustic and Fender Stratocaster electric. Having played competitive tennis for sixteen years in my younger days, I also enjoy playing doubles with my sons and either a friend of theirs, or a longtime friend of mine that I played competition with. I love watching the AFL, but since I follow Carlton, the less said about that the better!

I am relatively new to ordained ministry, only being ordained as a deacon on 6 February 2016, but after three and a half years of theological training at Trinity College Theological School, and three years of student placements in three different parishes, my passions in ministry are preaching the Scriptures, and making pastoral visits to people in need.

Rev. Devan Foster

Devan was ordained in February 2013 after studying at Ridley Melbourne, and has joined us at St James Dandenong as the assistant minister. He is married to Liz and their sons Joseph and Oliver keep them busy and in shape! When time allows, he enjoys riding the vintage racing bike (given to him by his father), landscape photography, day walks to the Cathedral Ranges, making stuff (cakes, furniture, Lego, etc), and going out for coffee with his Liz.

"I'm enjoying belonging to St James and loving opening up and learning from the Bible about God to the people here through conversation, preaching, bible studies, home visits and more. There is so much opportunity for maturity in Christ and for us all to grow as holy children of God."
