You are welcome to enquire about being married at St James Anglican Church, Dandenong. We are an Anglican Church and to be married at St James you will you will need to contact the Vicar, Fr Jeff Parker on 03 97933898 who will usually conduct your wedding service. Marriages which are conducted by non - Anglican clergy or by secular wedding celebrants are not permitted at St James.
St James is a beautiful traditional church and is a stunning church in which to be married. Usually we have available a skilled organist to make sure your music is as good as it can be.
Those who come to St James for a wedding will need to undertake some kind of preparation. Preparing for marriage is a lot of fun and a great investment of a small amount of time before entering into a lifetime relationship.
If possible it's preferable for couples wanting to be married at the church to come along to worship services, probably 10.00 am at least for a few weeks before being married. That honours the sacrament of marriage and honours the God who we are asking to bless you.
If you want us to conduct your wedding you need to provide to us:
- Birth certificates for both parties (Australian passports are not sufficient for Australian Citizens)
- A baptism certificate for at least one of the couple
- Final divorce papers or Death Certificate (for former spouse) if you are looking to be married.
- Overseas passports for foreign citizens.
- Australian passports are not accepted by the Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages.
Photographers need to work closely with the celebrant of the marriage. They need to be reminded that they are guests in the church and are to obey instructions given by the clergy. Unfortunately this has been an issue several times recently. Photographers MUST speak with the priest before the service to be advised of where they can and cannot stand to operate their equipment. Otherwise problems may well arise during the ceremony which would be most unfortunate.
COSTS: There is currently an all inclusive fee of $850 for a wedding at St James.
Included are the costs of the preparation programme, all paperwork and certificates, the wedding candle if one is needed, organist if required. An official wedding certificate needs to be obtained from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages at your own cost.
It's great preparing for marriage, even if you have been together for a long time. We try to be realistic, mature and respectful to all who come for marriage and by your wedding day we are usually good friends.
